H.S. Track

To the Editor:

How does a Track team practice without a track? Ask any track member and they will tell you, it’s hard. Admitting that you don’t have a track on which to practice is embarrassing and hurts our school’s image. If the school could find the funds to revamp pur track, there would be an increase in the number of students participating in the track program.

Having a track would also improve the performance of all athletes. It would provide track and field athletes with experiences, that would help them in district, regional and state meets. The better the training facilities, the better the athletes.

Having a track to practice on would decrease the number of injuries on the team. Athletes would not have to worry about injuring themselves while training for important competitions. Instead they could focus on enhancing their performances.

If the track was resurfaced, the community would benefit as well. People could use the track for physical fitness. Citizens could jog or walk without being concerned abqut being struck by a car.

The only negative thing about paving the track would be the cost. Page County High School recently paved their track, and the cost was about $10,000. This included painting and lining.
