Mr. Raines has been married to Le,ona Mundy, a registered nurse, for 28 years. During that time they raised two children, now ages 23i and 25.
For the coming school year, Mr. Raines has three priorities: (1) to improve attendance and thus academic performance; (2) to improve communications among all the major players in the system, students, parents, teachers and administrators; (3) to raise pride, so that “everybody wants to be here.”
“And if they don’t,” says Mr. Raines, “it’s their problem.” He looks disgruntled when he says it, but you need to catch the twinkle in his blue eyes.
