Last Friday, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force sent a letter to Attorney General Janet Reno asking that the crime be investigated as a possible hate crime. Friends of the two women have told the media that the two women were lesbians.

A hike is being organized in memory of the two women and will be held beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 23. Hikers are asked to meet at a parking lot at milepost 42.5 on the Skyline Drive, which is on the east side of the Drive, across from the south entrance to Skyland.
