Carolyn Colvin
Mrs. Carolyn C. Colvin died at th* Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community on June 4. She was 88.
Mrs. Colvin was the widow of H H. (‘ Jack”) Colvin of Culpeper. She was bom on Jan. 4, 1908, in ‘ Buckingham County to Elmo T. and Kate B. Carter.
Mrs. Colvin was a retired schoolteacher who taught elementary school in Culpeper for over 33 years. After retirement, she continued as a substitute teacher and, up into her eighties, she would visit classrooms and read to the children. ■ - Her late husband was a World War One combat veteran and a charter member of the'Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department, late becoming its Chief in the early 1950s. Because of this, Mrs. Colvin was a very active in the past in the American Legion A,uXiliary (a past President) and the Fife Department Auxiliary.
She was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church since the early 1930s and had held a number of positions in the church.
Mrs. Colvin had been a resident of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community since 1990. She suffered an illness in early 1994 that confined her to the Health Care unit at the Bhptist Home. She had been active in the community up until that time.
Mrs. Colvin was preceded in death by two sisters and by three brothers, on of whom was W.W. “Woody” Carter, late of Culpeper.
. She is survived by two sister, Mrs. W.G. Smith of Cheraw, S.C. and Mrs. A. Burnette Jones of New Canton, and by two sons, Thomas E. Colvin ofSperryville and William E. Colvin of Martinsville.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, en great-grandchildren and puraerous nieces and nephews, . including David Carter of Culpeper. ’ .Graveside funeral services were ; held Thursday at Fairview Cemetery. . _ Clore Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.
