Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs said the school system decided to go ahead with the early dismissal because parents had already made arrangements for that. “We thought it would be least disruptive for parents if we left that intact,” she said.

School students, parents and teachers are far from the only people affected by the rainy weather. Farmers have had a hard time making hay and getting orchard crops sprayed.

County Agricultural Agent Kenner Love said there was a “window of opportunity to make decent hay,” but it passed leaving many fields with hay cut but not baled or not yet cut. “The later it is made the poorer quality it is,” he said.
