A special called meeting of the Board of Supervisors Tuesday afternoon provided an opportunity for several people with homes in Old Hollow to vent their frustration with clean up operation following the Sept. 6 floods.
But first the supervisors had to find a place to hold the meeting. The courtroom still held General District Court. The basement of the clerk's office was rejected in favor of the conference room at the Extension Office.
Thek primary purpose of the" meeting was to ratify the decision made by Chairman Hubert Gilkey to declare an emergency Thursday afternoon Sept. 5 at 2:45 with winds and heavy rains from Hurricane Fran forecasted to hit the county on Friday.
County Administrator John McCarthy said declaring an emergency enabled the county to mobilize emergency response and enter into contracts.
"I did declare an emergency to get everything rolling," Mr. Gilkey said. "We need to make everything legal."
