Fred Payne
Fred Lee Payne, 79, of Culpeper died on Thursday, September 12 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was bom April 5, 1917, in Brasstown, North Carolina, to the late Frank C. and Lelia Hyatt Payne of Inlet.
Mr. Payne worked as a dairy farmer most of his life.
He leaves behind a legacy of many friends who also knew him as an avid coon hunter. Mr. Payne was also known for his mule driven wagon rides that he shared in many parades and charitable events statewide.
Survivors include four sons, Darrell I. Payne, Dewayne Payne, Daniel C. Payne and Cary M. Payne, all of Culpeper and one daughter, Debra C. Payne of Tazewell.
He is also survived by one sister, Myrtle (Carrie) Jones of Culpeper, one brother, John Robert (Bud) Payne, Sr. of Mitchells and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph (Bill) Payne of Madison.
Graveside services was held on Sunday, September 15 in .Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Gordon George officiating.'
Pallbearers were Roy Trout, John Robert Payne, Jr., Theron Nelson, Roger Gough, Atler Stanley, and J. Robert (Bob) Jones.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 715, Culpeper, Va. 22701.
Found and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
