Ihe hearth...the heartbeat of the home; the chimney.. .a silent sentinel still standing proudly, a reminder of what was...the remainder of what is.
The center of cooking and conversation, water boiled there for babies' births and Saturday's bath. Old men played checkers, as youngsters played make believe by friendly flames. Before the first light of dawn and after the last sliver of sunset, the hearth glowed faithfully. Family was born and family died, but vlheu all was said and done, and all else had crumbled, the rock hearth stood, a sign of security in insecure times.
In Matthew 16:18, the Lord declares, "Upon this rock 1 will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.” Psalm 19:14 lauds God as *‘my rock and my redeemer." Take shelter in the loving security of God's sanctuary this Sabbath. At times, spirits crumble but after all is said and done, God’s love stands; assurance of security in insecure times.
