The council approved his request for funds so members of the committee could attend a conference in Richmond on constructed wetlands.
Mayor Willis said he had made a tour of the town and recommended the town purchase six more street lights. "We had a fear we were going to light up the world. It hasn't worked out that way,” he said. He suggested additional lights for the Fodder stack Road, Warren Avenue and Piedmont Avenue.
Ms. van Dort noted the council had agreed to give the new street lights six months before making any changes. She said the council should at least wait until the October meeting before voting to add lights.
Member Reinhardt Lynch suggested getting copies of the map showing where lights were to be installed out to members so they could use the maps in checking out the level of light.
Mr. Tompkins asked where the town would get money for buying more lights.
Ms. van Dort said, "The same place you get money."
Mr. Tompkins said, "From the sewer reserve, no way."
The Planning Commission will meet Sept. 23 to draw up a zoning amendment that will allow adaptive reuse of the old school for a senior center. A joint public hearing on the zoning amendment can be called for both the planners and council at the October Town Council meeting. '
Ms. van Dort said the planners should add to their agenda making the changes approved a year ago in the definitions for all the town's ordinances.
