Martha Ball Buckner Fletcher,. 107, the oldest descendent of Mary! Washington, mother of the first; American president, died Thursday, September 12 at her home, Thornton Hill, Sperryville.
Mrs. Fletcher was the widow of William Meade Fletcher, prominent Virginia attorney and pioneer legalscholar in corporate law, who wrote. Fletcher on Corporations.
A lifelong resident of Thornton Hill and Peyton House Washington, Va„ Mrs. Fletcher has been featured in both "The New York Times”, "Gourmet Magazine", and"Washington Post" for her knowledge! of Virginia history and Southern cook-' ing.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, September 15 at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery, Woodville the Rev. Jennings Hobson officiating.
Survivors include one son, James ^William Fletcher^of Thornton Hill;!
'^even grandchildren, Anne Meade 'Faulconer of Orange, Frances Fletcher Bedell of Fort Smith, Ark., Mildred Buckner Slater of Upperville, Catherine Meade Littleton of ColesPoint, Louise Miller Tayloe of Charlottesville, James Williams Fletcher, III of Sperryville, and! Majtha Stuart Trope of Richmond. Other survivors are 14 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Martha Ball Fletcher Memorial Fund, Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, Virginia.
