Kathleen Maier got a permanent special use permit to operate a center for herbal studies on land belonging to Susan Babcock. However, the Board of Zoning Appeals added a provision to the permit to require a review of the permit after two years.
Douglas Baumgardner had sent a letter to the board outlining the problems the Jonas Jenkins family has with the center and asking that any permit extension be contingent on having all traffic associated with the center use the new road off Route 624 rather than the right-of-way Ms. Babcock has past their houses off the Fodderstack Road.
Ms. Maier's original permit was to operate the center one weekend a month from March through November this year for a maximum of 20 students. With the renewed permit the center can operate on other weekends and weekdays throughout the March through November period.
She said the students had been coming in at 2 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon and staying through 2 p.m. on Sunday. "Our main intention was to create a model of community self-sufficiency," she said.’ "Everything is
