Since our Amissville business men and women are too modest to be first in my spotlight feature, I contacted Jan Makela to give me a little history on her family's store.
In 1934, L.E. Hackley and his wife, Rosalie, opened Hackley's Store which Mr. Hackley operated until his death. Rosalie and her son, Graham, continued working the store. When his mother passed away, Graham carried on the tradition. He worked the store for 57 years with his wife, Dorothy, by his side.
• In 1991, their daughter, Jan returned to the area with her husband, Ron and their son, Josh and set about carrying on the family business.
