Rappahannock Newi SUfT Writer ] Both the varsity and JV girls' basketball teams showed improvement when they faced Luray in a rematch Thursday night, but they still fell short of victories. - • The varsity fell 61-48 to a determined Bulldog team. Sonya Wigington had 22 points, Dawn H&vstad had 10, and Kylene Wolfe added seven, tiffany Keys had six rebounds. , • _ "They played one heck of a gatne," Coach Laura Conklin said. *’Our main problem was offensive rebounds. At half time we had no offensive rebounds. Our goal was to pressure and steal the ball and get inside for rebounds, but on offense they were rushing too much." She no'ted that as a team the varsity had 10 steals. ^ She said time after time the varsity pulled closer to.the Lady Bulldogs only to fall back again. Sarah Gentry was unable to play and "that hurt us some not having her. The team pulled together and made a valiant effort considering we were missing one starter. I’m proud of the way they played. They made mistakes because they were rushing."
The JV fell 31-21. Rebecca Letsen had five points, Alice Gentry, Beth Magee and Mandolyn Ashby had four each. Mandolyn pulled in 12 rebounds, and Rebecca 10 along with nine steals. ■ "We started off a little slow,*’
