The group often welcomes friends and neighbors to listen in on rehearsals, where they are privileged to observe the incredibly complex process through which the composer and the other four musicians bring an evolving creation to life as an ensemble performance. A little more staccato here, a smoother transition there; more cello in this section, more prominent flute in that passage. A few subtle adjustments and what sounded lovely at the first hearing has suddenly become even better.
Local artist, Robin Purnell, has been a regular at rehearsals since the group first began playing together. She describes listening to the Rappahannock Quintet as "a unique experience. Not only do these local musicians compose their own music, each piece is very different and touches the full range of emotions. 1 have been looking forward to this concert for months."
