Senior Center
j Rappahannock seniors citizens and volunteer friends brought the reality of a senior center closer last Friday with a day of work at the former Washington School.
A long ramp was built from the edge of the parking area to die porch of the building. A room with a kitchen and bathrooms ljas been selected. ' The center promises to be much more than a place to have meals three days a week. The seniors will be able to use their (oom every day and for longer periods. They will be able to start iraft projects and carry the projects through to completion without having to put everything away at the end of the day. J In the meantime the back section of the building has become die After School Club for the Child Care and Learning Center. If pie senior citizens can remain in their space outside of lunchtime, there is the possibility of intergenerational activities between the children and the seniors. ; Also Hunt Harris will move, the Ragged Mountain Resource Center into another room in the old school house. A center for information about the county and planning for projects to Improve it, the Ragged Mountain Resource center can become . ihe visitors’ center the county and Town of Washington so badly peed, and this opens the possibility the seniors can provide part of the staffing for the center.
The former Washington School can become once again a tenter of activities in Rappahannock County as it was when schools were centers for social life in rural areas including this ■ founty.
