After a short discussion in executive session, the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors agreed last Wednesday to purchase the 17.1024 acre Anderson property for $102,614.40.

The county had been negotiating to buy the property, belonging to Rosemary and William Anderson, for almost a year and a half but serious discussion for the 17 plus acres had occurred in the last six months, said County Administrator John McCarthy.

The county will also extend funds to cover the closing costs.

The property will be used for a new waste disposal site, Mr. McCarthy said. There are now two sites for dumping trash in the county — Huntly and Scrabble — but this one will be owned and maintained by the county.

Auxiliary uses for the property are: A possible road to link the Rappahannock Elementary School and High School via a back road since the Anderson property backs up to the school property, thereby eliminating some of the necessary traffic from the schools onto Rt. 211; and possibly relocating the Virginia Department of Transportation's Rappahannock office on a part of the land. Mr. McCarthy said that the county has talked with VDOT about that possibility but so far nothing has been decided.

However the immediate use will be for a waste disposal site.

‘ The county is also negotiating to buy the Fletcher property, which adjoins the Anderson property in hopes of furthering its other plans.

The county expects the closing to take place in the next two weeks.

In other business, the board adopted the revised agenda and approved the bills. A matter of small discussion pertaining to the bills was for the purchase of a rebuilt motor for one of the county's cars in which the engine blew up. Mr. McCarthy will get estimates for rebuilt engines and the motor will be replaced.
