This is the fourth in a series about teenagers who run fire and rescue calls in Rappahannock County.
John Henry Woodward joined Castleton Fire and Rescue as a teenager in 1965 and has been the Fire Chief there since 1982.
There are now four teenagers who are members of the department, working with him, his wife Peggy, who is the Rescue Captain, and die other adult volunteers.
Wendy Cordani and Brian Wharton are both 19 and graduates of RCHS. Wendy runs rescue calls and Brian does fire and rescue. Though they both work full-time, they run :alls whenever they can.
Wendy joined one year ago and is planning to take an EMT class. It can 3e difficult to find a class that is not already filled up, she said. She goes on rescue calls with Mrs. Woodward, who is training her, but she looks forward to the day she is EMT-certified.
For the job she has in Gainesville Joing child care, Wendy will soon be taking first aid and CPR, requirements For the job. So right now at Castleton ihe works helping with fund-raising and works on the parades, which all of he teenagers for this series have said hey enjoy.
Wendy said she joined Castleton aecause she wants to help out people n the community. She said, "It is a ?ood experience. I would suggest it to ather teenagers too."
