Of a Great Lady
To the Editor:
I was informed of the passing of Mary Botts Quaintance Snead this week and I felt compelled to sit down and share some thoughts of her. Although she never had any children of her own she had a tremendous influence on several generations of families in Rappahannock.
I was in the first class that opened up the current Rappahannock Elementary School in 1969 and Mrs. Quaintance was our new principal. It didn't take us long to realize she was definitely the "head cheese" and someone that commanded our respect. All it took was the sound of her heels clicking down the hall to quiet the whole class and she could melt the biggest, meanest bully with just one look of those flashing blue eyes.
