Part of the process of the project, said Ms. Marshall, is just to acknowledge that nobody handles conflict easily and there are many ways to handle conflict. She said that anger can be used to create instead of destroy and that it is not easy for anyone.
The students have come up with exceptional ideas and artwork for the murals and each conveys a multitude of emotions. One scene shows fire and mountains. Ms. Marshall said that Richard Satorius, a drama student in Cindy Cumins’s class, said, "Out of earthquakes something as beautiful as mountains are bom.”
She said the earthquake signifies conflict and the mountain signifies something that is eternal. When on top of a mountain, she explained, you have more understanding.
