Rappahannock Ntm StafT Writer • As the first speaker in an ongoing speaker series at Wakefield Country Day School, last Wednesday artist Ned Bittinger said, "I love to share with people my passion. I love to paint and draw."
Mr. Bittinger was at the school to give a slide show about his art and the new childrens' book he illustrated, "The Blue and the Gray. “
WCDS third-grader Dorian| Matthews, son of Dwight and Jennifer Matthews of Flint Hill, was the model for one of the two boys in the book. The book, which is a story about two young boys liv' ing in the present who learn about Civil War battles that were fought near their homes, was written by Eve Bunting. >.* This is the second childrens* book that Mr. Bittinger has illustrated. The first one was "The Matzah . That Papa Brought Home," which came out in 1995. For that book he also used local children as models for the book — sisters Hallee and . Hannah Morgan of Flint Hill.
