lhe Rappahannock News, at the outstanding suggestion of one of its readers, will attempt to arrange and conduct "focus groups" a: a way to get the ideas and opinions of comity residents into the paper. *
A "focus group,", often used by businesses to test people's reaction to new services or politicians to gauge people's views, are also a way to find out what local citizens feel about issues of immediate relevance to them. The newspaper is inviting local residents to come, sit down and discuss, in a free-flowing, round table-like discussion, issues and concerns facing this county.
The discussions will be approximately two hours in length, will consist of 10 to 12 participants each time, and will center on a preselected topic. They may be conducted on a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis depending on your response.
The discussions will be taped and extracts of the best commentary will be presented in a story, with all sides,represented and a conclusion drawn based on the results of the discussion. These discussions should prove to be extremely insightful for area residents concerned with local issues.
The first topic up for discussion will be ridge-top development. If you wish to participate in a focus group to discuss this issue please contact the paper and sign up. As soon as an adequate number of participants sign up we will arrange a time agreeable to all for the discussion to take place. All Were Winners
All the students who participated in the recent Science Fair held at Rappahannock Elementary School are to be heartily congratulated for a job well done.
Although in any competition there must be winners, there were no losers at the fair. All the students won. Their innovative, ingenious creations reflected the skill and hard work it required to plan and execute them. The knowledge gained from participating in the fair is an invaluable lesson for their growth as students.
Kudos to all, including the science teachers aqd school staff who were their guides — and best of luck to all those students who will continue on to the regional competition in March.
