This working relationship has been very close and amicable for more than 20 years. “I can’t recall where VDOT did a project when the Board of Supervisors was opposed,” he said.
From the state’s perspective, the Construction Program is dollar and time driven, not road driven. VDOT is, after all, in the roadbuilding business, so one project is essentially the same as any other. But Bob Moore, VDOT resident engineer for Fauquier . and Rappahannock counties, recognizes that county residents and the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors have a much more personal stake in the process. He strongly values their opinions and on many occasions has gone out of his way to meet and work with people affected by the proposed changes,
The process is bureaucratic and lengthy, which makes it more difficult to understand. Both VDOT and the Board would like to make changes in how the information is presented to the public so that any problems might surface early enough to be resolved.
