Mrs. C.G. Lawrence was declared the oldest lady attending the annual Ladies Night Banquet of the Amissville fire hall. She was given a jumping rope to aid in keeping her on the go. She was escorted by her son, Edward, a club member. The dinner meeting was well attended and seemingly enjoyed. All club business was tabled and the evening was one of entertainment and fellowship. Mr. Locke B. Burford is retiring from the Virginia Department of Highways as of Dec. 31. He has been acting as maintenance supervisor in the Fairfax and Arlington area, and has been with the department for 41 years. Mr. and Mrs. Burford attended a banquet Friday held at the fire hall in Manassas in honor of Burford and two other fellow retirees. The Chester Gap Fire Department announces that R.C. Buracker of Luray was awarded the 30:06 Remington automatic rifle which was given away Saturday evening at the shooting match at Chester Gap. On Monday, opening day of the hunting season, 21 deer and one bear were checked at Rappahannock County checking stations.

After a few weeks the Trailriders of Rappahannock will rocket again this Sunday, Nov. 26, promptly at 1:30 p.m. from the ever popular Dunnie Eastham, Red Hill Farm on Route 729. Daughter Marion will coordinate the ride and steady trotting is the order of the day, with all this brisk weather. The Men’s Chorus of Shiloh Baptist Church, Brandy Station, will appear at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint Hill on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. This program is for the improvement of the church. The net proceeds from the Rummage Sale and Bake Sales sponsored by ladies of the Washington Fire Company were $1,257.40. Of that, $150 was used for carnival speakers and the rest will go toward the building fund for the new fire house. Philip Byrd Eastham Jr. of Hume will be initiated into Alpha Chapter of Virginia Phi Beta Kappa Dec. 5 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg.
