Joy L. Sloane of Sperryville was elected president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection last week as four new members joined RLEP’s board of directors.
Sloane becomes the first woman ever to head the 27year-old citizen action organization that is dedicated to preserving the rural character and rtatural resources of Rappahannock County. She has been on the RLEP board for seven years and also serves as a member of the Rappahannock County Library Board of Trustees. She succeeds Marc Malik, who remains a director of RLEP.
Other officers elected were Jim P. Gannon, of Castleton, as vice president; Mea Arego of Amissville, as secretary, and Phil Irwin, of Flint Hill, one of the founders of RLEP, as treasurer. The four new directors elected at RLEPs annual meeting in October bring a variety of talents and backgrounds to the organization’s board.
