Residents patiently listened to what the applicants proposed and then addressed concerns to the commissioners.
Among the concerns were: the noise the facility would generate; could it be opened to other church groups which might not have as much regard for the county as the applicants do; how much would it alter the landscape; what would be cut and cleared to make space for it; sewer requirements and would there be discharge into the river; how do property taxes apply; what would exterior lighting be; and what about the road? The last was the major sticking point for everyone.
County Administrator John McCarthy said, “I’ve met with representatives of the church and Jay Parker (their architect) for six months and their sentiments are honest — they fell in love with the property.”
“But (in considering the application), I can’t get beyond the transportation issue,” he said. “The rest is irrelevant.
