A snowplow has joined the arsenal of weapons the Virginia Department of Transportation has in Rappahannock County to keep roads open during winter storms.

The new SnowGo plow mounted on an Oshkosh fourwheel drive chassis is assigned to the Washington Area Headquarters at Washington, Va., ready to fight drifts and other plow stopping accumulations of snow anywhere in the county.

It is also available on call when and where it might be needed in other areas of Northern Virginia.

It weighs in a 33,000 pounds and stands about 12 feet high, and is one of three snow blowers available in the nine-county Culpeper transportation district.
