For those who prefer to get out of the house to exercise, but still want to stay out of the cold, gift certificates to one of the area fitness centers — the Old Town Athletic Club or Chestnut Forks Athletic Club — are available.

From now until Dec. 10, Old Town is offering a holiday special for individuals: $50 for a six-week plan to use either the Strength Zone — a weight training facility on the basement level — or the Tone Zone, featuring aerobic activities, on the main floor. Cost for the total fitness package, which gives access to both, is $62 per person. Use of the Olympic-floor basketball and volleyball gym is included in the package.

Chestnut Forks also offers gift certificates for individual one-month ($55) and three-month ($150) periods of club and fitness use. Tennis court rentals are extra. Annual memberships ($125 for individuals, $360 for\ families) allow users to take unlimited fitness and LifeLines classes.
