More incidents of
vandalism
On the early morning hours of April 11, some mailboxes were damaged along Forest Grove Road in Viewtown. The sign at Forest Grove Baptist Church was also pulled off its post.
During the same morning, a fence and yard were damaged on Rudasill Road in Woodville. Someone drove their vehicle through the fence, made some doughnuts in the yard, then left through the damaged fence.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating these two incidents.
Storm causes fires
over weekend
Two brush fires over the weekend were caused by lightning from a storm that came through the county last Friday.
The first one started on the afternoon of April 9 in an area north of Dennis’s Store in Castleton. Fire companies from Amissville, Sperryville and Castleton fought the blaze for over two hours. Several acres were burned, but no property was damaged.
The second fire started in the early afternoon of April 10 in a three acre area just off of Route 231 south of Sperryville. Forestry officials believe that a tree struck by lightning the day before smoldered until the area had a chance to dry out, igniting the blaze.
Fire companies from Sperryville, Washington, Castleton, and Salem responded.
