BY JAN MAKE LA Public School Volunteer Coordinator
• Hold on to your hats! The next two months are going to be busy. More and more activities are being planned, not to mention preparation for the SOL (Standards of Learning) tests.
• Marmalade Theatre presented “Acropolis Now” on April 13 at RCES. Students in grades K-3 were invited thanks to the generosity of the Curriculum Enrichment Program and others. Students in grade three also got to participate in a workshop in the afternoon.
• The April School Board meeting was held on Tuesday, April 13. Please mark the second Tuesday of each month on your calendars, so that you might attend future meetings. We value your input.
• The Volunteer Recognition Event will be held at 3:45 on Thursday, April 22 at RCES. Anyone who has reached out in any way to help the public schools is invited to attend.
• In that spirit, I would like to recognize a few of the volunteers who do extraordinary things:
• Mrs. Sally Havastad, whose children have graduated, who still works tirelessly to support the Band Boosters.
• Mrs. Helen Graves and Mrs. Margaret Gottlieb, both retired teachers and wonderful people, who give of their time and talents two days every week to tutor children at RCES.
• The senior ladies at the Nutrition Site in Washington who clip, sort and count thousands of Campbell’s Soup labels and GM Box tops for our various campaigns.
