Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch would do well to remember that the Town of Washington existed long before they opened The Inn that has bought them fame and much fortune. Washington has its own historical atmosphere, it doesn’t need to become “what one wished the town history had been”, a quote from The New Yorker article of March 29.
My father, Bernard Gilpin, lived in Flint Hill for approximately 25 years before his death in 1987. While he was there, my family and I enjoyed many hours getting to know the people of Rappahannock.
We enjoyed the Flint Hill fireman’s carnival, the dances at the fire hall and the Fourth of July festivities in Washington.
