Sheriff forms Citizen Advisory group.
On another note, the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office has recently formed a citizens advisory committee. The purpose of this group is to give Sheriff Larry Sherertz an opportunity to communicate with the puband receive feedback and ideas from the community. Even though the turnout recently was light, Sheriff Sherertz received some good ideas from those present. He plans to take this feedback and “turn it into something positive.” Instead of a formal council, the sheriff plans to reach the public in two ways: • Through a web page that the office maintains, and to which representatives from the community will have access; and • By addressing the public at community gatherings. Sherertz wants to reach as many people as possible with these new initiatives. He sees the website and the meetings as additional ways to communicate. This is a good move on the part of the department. It’s always beneficial when the public feels that they have access to the decision-making process. So, it’s important for law enforcement to interact with the public, especially in small communities like Rappahannock County.
