Our community is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Hazel Lillard Hawkins, which occurred Sunday at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hawkins, widow of Joseph Hawkins had resided in Boston all her life of 70 years and we extend to her daughters, sister and granddaughters, and other relatives, our deepest sympathy.
Congratulations to Miss Heather Will, here in Boston who received the Congressional Gold Award in a ceremony at Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capital. A young person from Oregon, one from New York and two from West Virginia were recipients of this award, one of the highest that congress bestows on young people. Naturally we’re proud of Heather and wish her much success.
At the “Singing an Pickin” party held at Salem Fire Hall, Friday evening, Mr. John Triplett, the “banjo picker” was honored on his 85th birthday.
Mrs. Eunice Meade of Hash Lane and Mrs. Ray Frazier of Turkey Ridge joined by Mrs. Alvin Atkins of Sperryville and Ms. Linda Weakley of Standardsville were in Charlottesville on Wednesday, when Mrs. Meade had an appointment at Old Dominion Prosthetics.
