Matt Hatcher and his wife Deryn aren’t too worried about bears on Indian Run Farm, north of Flint Hill. They have a way to deter them.

Caubie (Real name - Bahra Sahbahka) and Misha (Misha of Bearpaw) are Karelian Bear Dogs - possibly the only such dogs in Rappahannock County. Out west, these dogs are used to deter bears from coming into public places such as picnic areas.

Matt manages Indian Run Farm. He came here in March, 1998 with his family. About a month later, they had an unwelcome visitor. The bear came onto the farm and helped itself to horse feed, bird feed and anything else it could get to. After a few days, Matt started wondering what to do about it.
