Carroll and Charles Kevis want in. The renovation of the Mattie Ball Fletcher house on Main Street in Washington has made remarkable progress, but it appears that it will be a’ few more months before they can take occupancy.
Their son Robin, the renovator with the help of his brother Chandler, wants them in too, but his attention to detail and a few surprises has made October or November look more realistic for project completion.
My second good look at this home renewal has brought some surprises as well. Despite the face lift and some fundamental modifications, the essence of the house, in both spirit and character, remain.
Even with the new wing, a handsome ‘guest room over kitchen’ addition perpendicular to the original structure, the house retains that feel of antiquity, and the sense that some important and positive things have there transpired.
Charles and Carroll are rather comfortable with the progress though. Charles said that they would not have gotten into the project if it weren’t for Robin. “He knows what we like . . . we trust his judgment.” After Charles retired, the elder Revises participated in 3 or 4 renovations with Robin, and all were concluded more than satisfactorily.
