PTO President
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a group of parents and teachers working together to improve upon the existing educational system. For many years, PTO has been the primary method for parents to become positively involved in their child’s school experience.
As the name says, PTO is made up of parents and teachers. Locally, that means parents and teachers of students in Rappahannock County Public Schools. There are no dues or fees for membership. In fact, if your child attends public school here in Rappahannock, you are a member. The amount to which you choose to be an active member is up to you!
Active PTO members are those who either go to PTO meetings, help with fundraisers, volunteer at PTO events, contribute food for teacher dinners, serve on PTO committees or just plain make themselves available to PTO for one or more of its many beneficial programs. Members are invited to participate as much or as little as they like, the important thing is to participate in some form.
PTO historically has been a valued source of funding for projects that would otherwise never take place. Recent examples are the new RCES playground equipment, trophies for academic awards, scholarships for field trips and sports camps and many, many other items, both large and small, that directly benefit our children’s educational experience.
Just as importantly, PTO provides an effective venue for parents to get involved in their child’s school. In the current national climate of rising school violence, gang activity, and increasingly pervasive exposure to
