Retirement program for fire
and rescue workers
The board still had to decide the fate of a proposed retirement program for volunteer fire and rescue workers. The program is based on a program currently being implemented in Fauquier County.
McCarthy noted that the program in Fauquier County has cost them more than expected. Frazier commented that fire and rescue isn’t ready to implement the program at this point.
The board voted unanimously to table funding for a retirement program, pending further study. They did, however, unanimously vote to proceed with a free vehicle decal program for fire and rescue workers, based on a points system.
Massie would like to see free decals also be available to members of the Ladies Auxiliaries. McCarthy said that he needs to find out if general statutes allow non-active duty members to qualify.
