Frances Foster and Robert L. Brown look over some of the antique items which will be on display in ' Rappahannock Library Friday, July 4. Among them are two grain hooks used in ancient times to reap grain by hand, and an old directory of Rappahannock County which included names of residents and numerous advertisements, a number of which were the distillers. Rappahannock County bells will ring out the message of liberty on the Fourth of July. All individuals who have bells, large or small are asked to participate in the National Independence Day observance by ringing their bells for five minutes at 2 p.m. on Friday. Church bells will ring simultaneously in the observance commemorating the ringing of the Liberty bell 194 years ago to announce American independence. Sperryville Boy Scout Troop No. 65 captured most of the honors in a week of camping and competition last week at Camp Rock Enon near Gore, Va. There were eight troops in attendance with 85 boys and 12 leaders. Rappahannock County is included in the Shenandoah Council. Officers were installed at the regular meeting last Wednesday of the Rappahannock Lions Club with Lester Deal as president. Present for the installation ceremony was zone chairman Larry Kauffman and Jack Dahlgren, deputy district governor. Wayne Sophia was named secretary-treasurer of the club. Other officers elected were Edward Clark, vice-president and O.C. Mitchell, Lion Tamer. [ Total rainfall for the month of June 1969 was 5.32 inches according to the official gauge at Washington, Va.
