drugs and alcohol, parents are realizing that teachers and administrators alone simply cannot ensure the safe, quality education that was once the norm.
While most would say that our schools do not have the type of problepns we read about in the papers, remember that parents in Colorado, Arkansas and numerous other localities felt the same way until the tragedies occurred which forever changed their children’s lives. Our schools may very well not have such terrible problems and, even if they do, PTO involvement is no guaranteed cure-all.
However, getting involved in your child’s school through PTO or any other venue will certainly do no harm, and quite possibly will be a tremendous benefit.

And finally, as you enjoy the rest of your summer with your children, keep in mind the following list of activities. This list is not endorsed by the PTO, NEA, or any other reputable group but, personally, I highly recommend it.
Ten things to do with your children this summer: 10: Read to them. 9: Listen to them. 8: Take them to the library. 7: Talk with (not to) them. 6: Spend time with them. 5: Read to them, again. 4: Love them, and let them love you back. 3: Teach them, and let them teach you back. 2: Show them how to live, and let them. 1: Read to them again, and again, and again.
