Rappahannock’s “Festival 2000” is destined to be the first in a series of extraordinary Fourth of July celebrations. The fresh new look of this year’s fete is certain to bring the crowds, and to keep ‘em coming year after year. The revamped Fourth was designed to showcase this county, its people, and its products, and to do so in a non-commercial way.
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) looked back and dug deep to develop the concept for “Festival 2000”, and got broad support from the community to carry it off. The Board of Supervisors, the Town of Washington, The Rappahannock National Bank, The Inn at Little Washington, Bleu Rock Inn & Pub, The Heritage House, Oasis CD Duplication, Rappahannock News, 211 Qmart, Baldwin’s Grocery, Sunnyside Farms, Settle’s Cars & Trucks, Settle’s Garage & Grocery, The Rappahannock Bar Association, Harris Hollow Frozen Fruit Company, Jewelry by Edmund, Real Estate III, and many volunteers—all pitched in with time, money or both to ensure that this year’s event will be an unparalleled success and a model for future “Fourths.”
A full-blown parade, the Rappahannock High School Band, a farmer’s market, a foodcourt, kids events, local arts and crafts, demonstrations, the library book sale, local authors, speeches, antique cars, foot races, music, and fireworks, of course—all on tap for “Festival 2000”!!!
With the magnificence of the County and the charm of the Town of Washington as backdrops, “Festival 2000” will focus on the Rappahannock bounty and the people who make it possible. Vendors are predominantly Rappahannockbased, and their wares include arts and crafts, livestock and produce, and food, food and more food.
