On Friday, June 9 Ashley Corbin of Sperryville and David Massie of Amissville received their Bronze Congressional Medal Awards at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The ceremony was held in the Senate Caucus Room of the Capitol. Forty-four students from Virginia received the Bronze Award and 24 received the Silver. A separate ceremony was held the following day for the recipients of the Gold Medal.
The Congressional Award was established by Congress where young people would achieve a required number of hours in voluntary community service, complete personal development goals, participate in activities to improve physical fitness and plan and execute a trip.
Miss Corbin earned her award by volunteering with 4-H at equestrian events, at camp and in the 4-H office. She improved her horsemanship skills, her basketball skills and participated in a camping trip.
