Bobby Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carter of Amissville registered Poland-China “Carter’s Proud Miss 55, No. 128390”, which he fed and grew out in winning the 1949-50 Pig-Chick-Heifer contest sponsored annually in Rappahannock by Sears Roebuck Foundation of Atlanta, Ga. This gilt produced nine nice pigs in the first litter, some of which may yet be available for breeding purposes. Bobby is a member of Washington Senior 4-H Club and is President of the County Council. Beginning July 1, the Washington Cooperative Fruit Growers Inc. will be under new management, as voted by the stockholders in a meeting June 16. The directors appointed C.E. Johnson Jr., manager and L.J. Kilby, sales manager. Mrs. B.M. Miller is bookkeeper. Rappahannock Garden Club is beginning work on a program of roadside beautification in the Sperryville community, in cooperation with the American Legion program along the same lines. At present the beautification program is combined with a cleanup program and fence-painting is the order of the day.
