Good judgement

Reversals of decisions will prove

benficial to county.

This past week two decisions were made that

reflect a maturity and sensitivity that are to be

applauded. Both reversed earlier decisions, and both should prove beneficial to the decision-makers and to the County.

On June 20, Rebecca Cordani resigned from her position as Jackson District School Board member. The battle that she has waged for much of the past year has pitted her personal needs with those of the schools, its students, and staff. Her inability to attend many of the School Board meetings was troubling yet understandable, given her needs at home. That she had the strength to make the decision to resign is laudable. Her election was not unfortunate-just illtimed, and we hope .that she will again run when she is more able to fulfill the obligations of the position.

The second decision was a reversal of the proposal by the Hearthstone Whole Family Learning Center to operate its school at the Country Manor building and to retain the gasoline sales operation that is currently there. The Hearthstone proposal was approved by the Planning Commission, four to two, despite compelling arguments against such an inappropriate mixed use. In a great show of good sense the Hearthstone folks, after receiving Planning Commission okay, decided that perhaps schools and gasoline don’t mix, and they eliminated the gas sales from their plans’
