Fourth of July
parade surging
This year’s Fourth of July celebration, “Festival 2000,” has become a county event and one of its features, the Festival 2000 Rappahannock Parade, is growing. The Festival 2000 Parade will begin at 5 p.m. and will circle the town of Washington. The parade will be led by the RCHS Band, drum major Andrew Clinedinst with Lynn Fournier, band director and will feature antique cars, County and Town officials, scouts, athletes, fire and rescue squads, wagons, and tnany Rappahannock surprises. At the parade’s tail will the Bicycle Parade, and just like last year non-motorized vehicles— bicycles, wagons, big-wheels, scooters—are welcome and should be decorated to win prizes. Parade participation is free, and all are encouraged to join in. Anyone interested can register by completing the parade form on RAAC’s web site (www.raac.org) or by calling RAAC at 675-3193. Bicycle Parade participants do not need to register—just show up behind the courthouse at 4:30 on the Fourth of July, not at the Rappahannock Library as noted in last week’s Rappahannock News.
