Though humor is woven throughout the story, and some scenes are outright laugh inducing, it deals with very mature subjects (adultery, homosexuality, teen and adult drug use, physical and mental abuse, underage sex). (which, in fact, he does), the father thinks the wife and daughter fail to either notice or appreciate him, he hates his job, and the mother is trying to be a perfectly dressed “Stepford” wife. None is happy, but all fail to realize how their lives are spiraling out of control until the shocking end. Chris Cooper plays a stunning role as a next door homo phobic Marine. It’s a finely crafted and acted film that Naomi & Herb recommend highly, but to adults only. It should make you grateful for your loved ones and how normal our own lives are, Herb noted.
