More than $30,000 ity reward money has been pledged by outraged citizens and organizations for the arrest and conviction df those responsible for the destruction of this 400-acre home, which was built in 1740. It is listed on th'4 National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.

At the time of the vandalism, the daughters were considering putting it up for safe and had contacted several realtors to come by and look at it. One of the realtor^ showed the property on May 15 and is apparently the last identified person known by authorities to have been there. ‘

Law enforcement officials are seeking persons who may have information about a early-80s black Cadillac seen at Montpelier on May 17 at 1 p.m. The Cadillac which had small back opera windows and vinyl roof was seen up near the mansion and agaih leaving the gate.
