Two easement gifts to the • i Virginia Outdoors Foundation, recorded at the end of September, add 389 acres to Rappahannock's permanently } protected landscape. Foremost of i these, and arguably the County's j most stringent easement, is a gift : from the Jenkins Mountain Land Trust-- the final step in a preservation action reported in the News a year and a half ago.
The Jenkins Mountain , easement merges six previous tax parcels into a single tract that can never be redivided and can never be "developed" by anything but one cabin, served by no utilities, and one or two woodsheds. Existing trails on the property may be maintained, but no new ones built. At almost 2000 ; feet Jenkins Mountain overlooks ! both Gid Brown Hollow and the Town of Washington.
The second easement applies : to 73 acres on Fodderstack Road near Flint Hill. That gift comes from Wallace and Susan Achenbach; it prohibits any future division of their property.
