Mrs. Spoon brought sever-! al stems of iris from her gar-! den to the meeting and explained the characteristics of each of these specially bred, flowers. ' ^
She also talked about the£ new introductions and prizewinning iris available at hef nursery. >(.
She explained that re-*; blooming iris need a little more care than the once blooming iris, extra fertilizer and water during the summery and more frequent division than other iris, in order to facilitate the second blooming.
Blue ribbons for flowers arrangement design, using the themes of "Nature's Contrast’1 and "School Days," were awarded to Betty Wood, Mar# Priest, and Janet Easthani. All of the many horticulture entries of grasses and dahlias also received blue ribbons.
Hostesses for September s meeting were Helen Fairfax^ Elbe Kreamer and Helen Smith.
Club members will be attending local flower shows during October as well as ttye Garden Clubs of Virginiq District Meeting in Front Royal. October's Rappahannock Garden Club program will be about "Underutilized Trees."
