True Confederate sympathizers who have always believed that Southern soldiers were saints and the Northern Yankees were sinners will not want to miss the next meeting of the Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table. ' "Yankee Perfidy and the Seven Deadly Sins" will be the topic of guest speaker Thomas P. Lowry, author of four Civil War books and numerous articles, including "The Sperryville Outrage," a 1999 Civil War Times article that detailed rape and rampage by Union troops in Sperryville during 1862.

Lowry is a retired professor of psychiatry whose research has dug deeply into such subjects as sex in the Civil War and medical and ethical bungling by wartime surgeons. He is the nation's leading authority on court martial cases that brought Union officers and soldiers to justice.

Lowry will speak to the Round Table on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Old Sperryville Bookshop, on Main Street in the historic village of Sperryville. Members of the
