Superintendent's report

Superintendent Dr. Gangel, on behalf of the VSBA, distributed certificates of achievement to School Board members Aileen Johnson and Rose Ann Sharp, and a "Silver Star" to board chair Rosa Crocker.

Dr. Gangel requested and received unanimous Board okay for the authorization for expenditure of $109,768.98 representing supplemental appropriations approved bv the Board of Supervisors at their last meeting. Some $21,000 of these funds was from PTEC for a contribution to health insurance costs, and Dr. Gangel presented a plan by which the bulk of these funds would be expended to ensure that employee health insurance costs, for this year, would not increase from last year. The board agreed to his proposal.

Student Representative's Report

Student representative Jeff Simeon noted that there have "been a lot of changes to the high school": a new lunch system where students do not need to pay each day, the new addition, the Varsity Club, the "Moment of Silence", the new dress code, the open container policy, and the reduction of time between classes. He said that everyone is adapting fairly well to the changes, but that "a lot of kids are caught in the halls between classes" due to the reduction in time allowed, and that the water vending machines are not accessible enough after lunch hours.
