RLEP directors to meet
The October board of directors meeting for RLEP, the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, will take place Monday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library. The meeting is open to the public.
Advisory Council to meet
The first monthly Principal Advisory Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the RCHS auditorium. All parents and friends are invited to attend. For questions or information call Principal Jack Raines at 987-8575 or Jan Makela at 987-8259.

Ragged Mountain Resource Center in Sperryville will host the following October activities:
Saturday, Oct. 14: Second Saturday Hike Series. Destination: Oventop, meet between 8 and 8:30 a.m. at Mountainside Market on US 211, West of Sperryville, return early afternoon. Hike leader/contact: Hunt Harris, 987-3366.

TFR announces fall clean up
Trash Free Rappahannock (TFR) in cooperation with VDOT is launching its month long fall roadside clean up campaign beginning Saturday, Oct. 21 and continuing for the three following Saturdays, Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11.
Individuals and groups in the county interested in identifying roads in need of cleaning up, picking up roadside trash, working with the court ordered youth community service program, or contributing money to TFR's new planned activities, should call either Buck Payne at 987-8303 or John Kiser at 987-8445 for more details.
Winter coat drive coming
The Amissville Baptist Church is having a winter coat drive on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone who needs coats, hats or gloves may come to the church and receive them for free. For more information call 937-5622.
Halloween Fest planned
The Rappahannock County Schools Sports Association is sponsoring Hungry Run Farm's fourth annual Haunted Barn and a children's costume contest and "Ghoulway" to raise money for Rappahannock County School Athletic programs.
Festivities will be held at Hungry Run Farm on South Poe's Road outside of Amissville. Follow signs from US 211 or from Route 647 out of Flint Hill. Refreshments will be available. The gate will open at 7 each evening and close at 10. Cost is $5 for adults and children 6-12 will pay $4 and under six will get in free. Family discounts available.
PSAT to be given Oct. 21
Parents of 10th and 11th grade students at Rappahannock County High School: The PSAT (Practice Scholastic Aptitude Test) will be administered at Rappahannock County High School on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students have already had the opportunity to sign up for this test through their Resource class. However, there is still time to sign up. The cost is $9.50.
Students are to pay Ms. Campbell in the Guidance office at their convenience during school hours. Payment can be made by cash or check. Please make checks payable to RCHS. Payment must be received no later than Thursday, Oct. 19. This test is given only once during the school year. It is an excellent preparation for the SAT which is one of several tests required for admission to most four year colleges and universities.
